11/26/2022BMW has announced the New 3.0 CSL, a New Special model By M Division.
The latest kidney grille
takes inspiration from the 3.0 CSL Homage concept of 2015, but now it has a
diamond-shaped insert with a lattice shape in the center. It's clear from the
grille's satin-finished aluminum frame that the engineers drew significant inspiration
from the original 3.0 CSL. The recessed front apron is evidence of this, as it
resembles that model's trademark face. They also serve a functional role, as
the fins help cool the engine and brakes. The hood-mounted air fins are also a
throwback to the 1970s model.
The most notable
characteristic of the car is its rear spoiler, which is reminiscent of the
batmobile's. Featuring a retro-flavored M Power logo, the wing is as wide as
the entire derrière of the 3.0 CSL and has enclosed sides, just like the
original had 50 years ago. The large aero element is complemented by a
roof-mounted spoiler akin to the E9 model.
The new 3.0 CSL has a pristine Alpine White Uni
paint finish and traditional M graphics. It's powered by the most powerful
inline-six engine Bavarian Motor Works has created to date to make for an
incomparable driving experience. The twin-turbo 3.0-liter is rated at 553 hp
(412 kW) and 550 Nm (404 lb-ft). Interestingly, the torque figure is actually
down by a significant 100 Nm (74 lb-ft) compared to the M4 Competition
and M4 CSL. That's
likely because the ultra-exclusive special edition uses a six-speed manual
gearbox that can't handle the full torque.
